Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is known as an autoimmune disease which usually starts with a small bald patch on scalp or any other part of the body.
Scarring Alopecia
Scarring Alopecia is caused by any inflammatory process (Burns, injury, autoimmune diseases etc.) which may cause permanent damage to the hair follicle.
Male Pattern Baldness
This type of hair loss is also known as genetic balding or androgenic alopecia. In most cases, male pattern baldness starts with receding hair line with M shape.
Female pattern baldness
A typical pattern of partial baldness can be seen in menopausal females which is known as Female pattern baldness OR Female pattern hair loss.
Trichotillomania
This type of hair loss is known as impulsive hair pulling or repetitive pulling of hair by a patient himself/herself. Trichotillomania occurs more frequently in young women.
Traction Alopecia
This type of hair loss is as a result of hair styles that tie or pull the hair so tightly that the hair roots are pulled from the scalp. This is very common in an African females due to braiding pattern.
Telogen Effluvium
Some trigger factors cause temporary and non scarring hair loss, known as telogen effluvium. This type of hair loss can be seen as an acute and all over the scalp.
Diffuse Patterned Alopecia
In most patients of androgenic alopecia, typical Norwood pattern can be seen but in some cases, generalized thinning can be seen which is known as diffuse patterned alopecia.
Chemotherapy Hair Loss
Chemotherapy consists of the administration of drugs that destroy rapidly reproducing cancer cells but unfortunately also affects normal cells and hair follicles too.
Chemicals Side Effects
Beauty treatments such as hair dyes, bleaching, straightening, softening, rebounding etc., contain harsh chemicals which may trigger hair loss in some individuals.
